Since it is a direct tax it is supposed to be appropriated, meaning we receive information about how our money was spent.

We never see that, thus it is an unappropriated direct tax. Meaning it is illegal, unaccounted for and no one here can tell you were it goes for sure.

Edit:
In the Constitutional sense, income taxes are indirect. That is why the 16th amendment granted no new powers to Congress, because Congress already had the power to levy an indirect tax without apportionment. Congress could have taxed the employer on wages paid and it would have had the same net effect. BTW, there has NEVER been a court case that said an income tax on WAGES was illegal. Pollock vs. Farmers Trust and Loan (1895) said that an income tax on RENTAL income was unconstitutional, but also said in their opinion that the constitution may have another meaning.

Edit: They amended the Constitution because of the 1895 Pollock case which got the constitutional intent wrong. The 16th amendment was added to CLARIFY that Congress had the power to levy an income tax. In Brushaber v. Union P. R. Co. the court specifically stated that the 16th amendment created "no new power". That is because Congress already had the power to levy an income tax. In fact, the court said that the conclusion "that the 16th amendment provides for a hitherto unknown power of taxation;...is an erroneous assumption." I am correct in my statement that the 16th amendment provided no new power to Congress.

It goes wherever Congress decides to spend it. Once income taxes are collected they go into the General Fund and are lumped in with all other revenue sources. From there, Congress can pretty much do with the funds as they please.

The link below is the Federal Budget. There is no way to track any individuals taxes to any specific spending.

To whoever said the 16th amendment did not give congress any new power: Of course it did. If it didn't, they wouldn't have bothered amending the constitution.
