That's why they wear chest guards, it's the same principle as guys wearing cups.
You DO wear cups when sparring, don't you? it sure hurts a hell lot more to get kicked in the nuts than a woman getting hit in the boob.

Hi there
That's just like saying there's no point in learning martial arts if your a man because you could get kicked in the balls?
I have sparred with some rather vicious ladies in my time and trust me you don't want to give them any special treatment just because they are ladies. They have the same skills and abilities as male martial artists. In fact some of them are better because they don't seem to suffer from inflated ego syndrome! That's just some men who seem have that condition!
I'm sure they get hit in the chest on a regular basis when sparring. They have the option to wear a chest guard and I'm sure most chose to wear them.
I had a lady instructor for many years and she was awesome!
Very skilled and she had the right mentality when it came to training.
Now if they have had a boob job then there could be implications but that's a different question than the one you asked.
I have often wondered what would be the best way to die being a male martial artists. Thanks to Bitchy girls post i think i now have the answer. ;-)
Best wishes

Well, I'm a girl who does Tae Kwon Do sparring, which involves lots of strikes to the chest area, so I'll give this one a go. The chest guard doesn't take all of the impact of a blow, but it does distribute it across a wider area, so even if you get kicked right in the chest, you don't get the full force. It's not that much worse than getting kicked hard anywhere else, unless I'm about to get my period and things are sore to begin with.
(Sorry for the overshare, but you did ask!)

As long as you have good support like a good sportsbra and chest protectors, i don't think that'll be much of a problem.
P.S. Bitchy Girl, if you ever need a new judo sparring partner, give me a call, I don't mind being suffocated at all : P

Why should women avoid participating in 'combat' sports any more than men should? As other answerers' have stated, we do/can use chest guards. Isn't protecting a vulnerable spot elementary, Watson?
Do you?

Being punched in the boob does hurt, but I know we won't fall to the floor like men do if they're punched in their punching bags. Common, you don't think girls can handle pain? Then you don't know what you're talking about. My friend Christine is on her way to becoming a black belt.

I am a woman and i have practiced many martial arts. Yes getting your boob stepped on is somthing that is painful. The risk of getting your boobs hit are about the same as getting your nuts hit. Though getting hit in the nuts leaves you in more pain.
In judo having boobs is great. I once won a judo tournament by suffocating my last opponent with my boob. I didnt even realize i had done that until she told me after the match. It also enables women to get out of pins and restrainted positions because boobs are maliable i can woggle out of anything because of this movable mound of flesh. I am never really "pinned" you see? boys are screwed because when pinned by the chest they are being pushed to the ground by their bone strusture and there is no room to wiggle out.
in jiu jitsu having boobs is nice because one key to making an effective choke is inhaling and pressing yourself against the opponent pushing them into the choke. I automaticly have about 3 inches of smashed boob to push into you. Therefore my extra boob mass will add more to my ability to constrict you.
Getting hit in the boob is no big deal, its like getting kicked in the hand. Having your nipple stepped on, thats the painful part.

I have seen several women's MMA fights and they focus on punches to the head and the body. It is also difficult to punch someone in the chest if they defend themselves properly.
