first - never leave your dogs alone - no matter how short of period of time you think it may be - and leave town. What you have created is a dog that is quite anxious as to being left alone, and now sounds as though he has separation anxiety (look that up on the internet and see if he has the symptoms listed). You need to reassure him, especially if he is getting older, he may not hear and see as well as he used to, and this could be frightening to him. There are medicines that will help keep him in a calmer state, but you will have to see a vet to get a prescription. Right now, what they are telling you is simply they are afraid to be alone. Who know's what someone may have done to them while you left them on their own. Obviously if this is new behavior, something has happened to trigger it, and you have to get to the bottom of it

Dogs are pack animals and want to spend time with the "alpha dog" (aka - pack leader) and guess what that is you. Perhaps if you didn't leave them alone on the weekends but had a pet sitter or a dog walker come to walk and/or spend time with them, the older dog might not feel so much anxiety. Bently might not be hearing as well anymore so it seems that he is ignoring you. . . the other dog might be picking up on his behavior and acting the same.
When dogs aren't well-worked and tired from exercise, they tend to act out to get their owners attention.
If none of what I am saying rings true for you or your dogs, then take the older dog into the vet and see if there could be another reason for the anxiety.
I hope it all works out. Good luck.

everytime they break the rules, chain them for 30 minutes. they'll learn after a bit that you are giving them ample room to run around. It may sound a little mean, but you need to re-establish boss status, and the only way you do that is take away a little bit of the freedom that they are now taking advantage of. when they break the screen, tell him firmly, and i mean with alot of authority NO! chain him up again. for everything that the dog does wrong, use the chain. if they have done fine in your backyard up until now then using a chain shouldn't hurt anything. If you do like to chain them up when they're outside sometimes, don't turn it into a punishment. use a kennel instead. animals are kinda like children, they like to push you just to see how far they can get. as much as i hate to say it, you've become a welcome mat for your dog. if the behavior doesn't improve, try obedience school, after all, you're never too old to learn, so why would the dog be?

Make a higher fence so he won't jump it if you don't want him jumpping it.
Take you window screen out so he won't mess it up.
Just let him through the window maybe that's the way he wants to come in.
Maybe they just wanna be inside and not the back yard then and you can just let them do their own thing sometimes animals can be strange like some people can.
If you don't want to leave them home alown you should have someone to look after them or if your worried about them running away you should shut the doors and windows and lock them and leave them with plenty of food and water.

.Please don't leave your dogs unattended when going out of town any more. He's jumping the fence and scratching @ the window because he's terrified your gonna leave him again. There not sure when that's gonna happen, so there trying to be close to you to go w/ you. If your going camping why don't you take them???? How do you know someone isn't bothering them while your gone????? Not good. They are not lawn ornaments. I'm not trying to be rude, just put yourself in their position. What if they get upset 10 min. after you leave and knock there water over???? Just a minor scenerio. They are not listening because they have lost respect for you, knowing you have no regard for them. Sorry so harsh, but true.

I cannot believe that you leave your 2 dogs alone!
Bad practice.
Why do you have 2 dogs & then leave them while you go off for camping trips?
The dogs are looking for the pack leader - that's you.
No wonder they are going silly.
Take them for walks - be active with them.
There is no answer to your problem until you attend to them& be a responsible owner.
I'm surprised that you haven't been reported to the authorities.

You may want to get invisilbe fencingand a zap collar for when you call his anme and he doesnt come you can put it on a slight zap and he should come but if you have invisilbe fencing it should do the trick but the zap colar is a need to in your case also.

If he jumps the fence at night and won't come, then look at his eyes. If the white's are plainly showing then he probably gets scared at night when he's not protected by his yard or house.
If not, he may have a problem. take him to the vet.
