so, isn't kind of good that you buy them to save them from all the abuse?

i wont do it because they never handle their animals so when you bring them home they are mean!!! i agree that if you buy it, you are doing that bird a favor~if they indeed abuse their animals~ but my mother inlaw bought 2 lovebirds from them 1 year ago, and they are still not tame, i got mine from a breeder and they are so sweet.

My local Petco has some wonderful, tame, healthy and happy birds. Yes, they are VERY pricey! The ones here are kept in seperate glass cages and the birds are WELL taken care of. It does all depend on each particular store though. If the management is good, then everything else should follow suit. Good managers only keep good employees and a good, neat and clean store.
I would suggest to use your own judgement. EVERY chain store has at least one bad location. Just as not every private breeder is good and reputable. Ask the proper questions, handle the birds, go through the proper channels to find out everything you can about a bird you're interested in. No matter if it's coming from a private owner, breeder or store. Remember, even stores generally buy from breeders!

I bought my quaker parrot from Petco.
I now know it was more expensive then a breeder but I didn't know any breeders around where I lived.
I took her to an avian vet the week after I purchased to have her checked out and she is fine and healthy.
I have not had any problems.
I think that the person taking care at the Petco I went to really loved the birds.
Maybe it is not the same with them all.

They do not want people to buy the larger birds from petco because of the way that the birds are obtained through blackmarket antics and stuff like that.

YOU never know what that bird has been subjected to before you bought it...and it might even carry a disease because its around so many different birds...stick with a breeder, they will know everything about your bird AND it will be alot cheaper for you...

I wouldn't buy any animal from petco dogs have died there from groomers , they don't keep cages clean http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7480632/ I agree to buy them to save them from the abuse I think they shouldn't be allowed to have animals period .my opinion

they abuse their animals, and to save money, they inbreed animals, breeding son with mother etc. granddaughter with grandfather, etc.
