i kind of know what a watt is but i tried to look up volt but it gives me all these definitions to god knows what it means, so in simple easy terms what is a watt and what is a volt and how are they different, also if a power plant can produce 900 megawatts of power how big of a city could that power?

A volt is a measure of electrical "pressure" being put on the electrons.

A watt is how much power is being consumed.

Power (watts) = Voltage x Current

I would try to be much simple...
Volt=emf=electro motive force means it is a force to move an electron from its base position(not exactly moving,its only tranfer of charge)
Watt=measurement of power=Its a kind of energy required to move the electron
thats why
watt=currents square * resistance
So it is the energy required to overcome the resistance to send the current.
Energy=power* time

to tell in mechanical terms..

volt is a force
watt is energy
other name for volatge is PD that is potential difference(low voltage to high voltage) so it is also pressure(low pressure to high pressure)...which is nothing but force=pressure per unit area..

If u still have confusion go for synonyms of volt and watt

as far as the second part is concerned that depends on how much u are running and teh load offered by the city

One volt is an electromotive force that will produce one ampere of current through a one ohm resistor.

Hence Volts = amperes * resistance

* signifies times or multiplication

One watt is the unit of power that is developed when one ampere flows through a one ohm resistor. This power manifests itself in heat which heats the resistor and connecting wire.

Hence, Power = volts * amperes or current^2 * resistance

900 megawatts is 900, 000, 000 watts and could provide power for a large city..

A volt is a measure of potential electrical energy, and a watt is a measure of the power. This is the same as the difference between mechanical potential energy, measured in Joules, and mechanical power, measured in Watts = Joules/second.

A watt is a measure of power and a volt is the potential difference across a conductor.

Volt = Current x Resistance (units of one joule of energy per coulomb)
Watt = Current x Volt (units of one joule of energy per second)

A volt is how big a highway is
A watt is how many cars are on the road
An amp is how powerful the cars are

BTW
A Lumen is how much light is given off.
