So I just had a thought, when we die we are supposedly going to go to heaven right? well try to contemplate death, its not sleeping its just no longer existing, not even black, its just nothing, I can not even fathom that how can that be?

And since that is so hard to contemplate do you think that this is the very reason God and heaven exist because people can't imagine life just being over and nothing to follow? Whats next and who's to say that God exists or doesn't, if God created the heavens and the earth, how did he come to exist, its so hard to just think that he just IS and wasn't made as everything else in our world comes into existance, does anyone else think about this? What are your thoughts on it?

Absolute nothing - no matter, no space, no time - is something that is incredibly difficult to conceptualize, if not impossible. The same with non-existence. We never experience true-non existence because we would be unable to return from the experience to remember it.

Also, we live in a causal universe. Something happens because something else happened, which happened because something else happened, and so on.

We do not live in the quantum universe where things can happen for no reason, and matter can pop into and out of existence.

So mankind has expanded the spirits of air, water, trees, etc. to help cope with these impossible concepts. God was there and caused the universe. (Just don't ask where god came from.)

I do not want to die, I can not conceive non-existence, so there must be a life after death. - Soon after which the priests grab hold of the idea and start saying what you need to do to get a better afterlife. (Give them food and money, and do what they say.)

You nailed it. What the human mind cannot comprehend, it labels God! You are asking questions that the faithful don't want asked. They prefer you are spoonfed your information that they control. Do not come up with your own questions.

Faith is an absolutely marvelous tool. With faith there is no question too big for even the smallest mind.
— Rev. Donald

Is it not better to place a question mark upon a problem while seeking an answer than to put the label "God" there and consider the matter closed?
— Joseph Lewis, (1889-1968)

God is a sound people make when they're too tired to think anymore.

Well, firstly, it is not hard for me to comprehend non-existence, because there's nothing to comprehend. That's the point.

The fact that people the world over think there is something beyond death can hardly be taken to prove that there *is* really nothing beyond death. Instead, if people of all cultures and all regions of the world come up with the same concept (i.e. there's something beyond death), there has to be something inherent in human beings that causes us all to think along that same line (just like there has to be something inherent in human beings that causes us to view smiling positively, for cultures the world over all recognize smiling as a pleasant thing).

This inherit quality within the human race is the longing for God, for our Creator. It doesn't go away and it doesn't make sense if there is no God. If there is no God, why and how did our little ape ancestors come up with Him?

or perhaps its the other way around, that its so hard to convceive, because deep down everyone knows thats not how it is.

just as if you tried to envision the world without gravity... you can't really, nothing would work, and you know its not so.

for the latter part, have you considered the possibility that your conception of what "God" is and means, is what is at fault? that "God" as some super-powered human in the sky directing everything, in fact, does NOT exist. but a greater form of God that is not as human-like and finite does in fact exist and is easily seen as just being.

I think whatever resonates with you, feels right to you is what you ultimately believe in. I grew up going to different religious churches to get an education on the different religions. I made up my own mind on what felt right to me and for me. For me, I came to understand I didn't need a religion to have a personal relationship with God, and my beliefs span over many religions, not just one.
