was wondering what the reason is for such a lengthy lag when chatting with someone in Iraq.they last from5-10 minutes.could this person be chatting with someone else.He blames it in the connection. Which I doubt. He also said too many people on one satilite.could this be the problem?

He is correct. The signal bounces off of satelites and the connection is often heavily used.

Both of these things contribute to a slow connection. Radio signals are much slower than light speed and this is compounded by the fact that we're adding distance to that 8000 miles to Iraq by bouncing it off of satelites in orbit. Each satelite then has to priortize those messages in it's queue to get it too you.

So, first the individual router on his end is overtaxed, then it is sent into space where another router is overtaxed and then it gets to another one and finally to the US where you too *may* have a slow connection. Frustrating I know. Caused a few arguments with my ex as well.

I don't know much about this topic, but wouldn't sensoring be a good idea? Make sure none of the military personal said anything that could give too much information if any enemies or foreigns were listening or watching.

It could be that the call is being delayed for censoring reasons (like radio and live TV broadcasts, but our government would never do anything like that. Odds are he is also talking to the female soldier who is with him at the time. It does get lonely over there, you know.

all messages are scanned and read before going to the other person. texts to phones ims and emails are all read to protect the opsec. they cant risk the tiniest details being leaked. plus the connections do suck royally
