Your best bet to get a good price on tickets is to buy directly from the airlines and not from some other site. That way you dont pay the extra fees. Airlines tend to lower their prices between Tuesdays and Thursdays. The prices change several times a day, so its something you'll have to keep checking on. Also remember, if you plan on flying close to a holiday, the prices can go up, so just keep that in mind. Hope you get a great deal. Good luck!

1) Stay away from flying on Holidays, Mondays and Fridays. Tuesday and Wednesday are the least expensive.

2) Look on the individual airlines instead of Pricelines/Expedia/etc. You'll find better deals usually.

3) Most people will tell you that Wednesdays at midnight is when the prices go down. If you buy your tickets at least 2 months in advance, you'll get the best price.

4) Have a flexible dates.

There is no set standard of when to purchase your ticket. Each aircraft is divided into sections. Each section has seats that sell for as little as $50 one way all the way up to $300 each way. What rate you get depends on when you purchase it. If you ever check on Southwest, you'll see that many of the cheapest fares are "unavailable." There may only be literally 2 seats at the "fun fare" price.

So in other words, if you get a really cheap fare, you either purchased your fare far enough out in advance, or the flight is really empty. Please note also, that the fare classes will disappear to the more expensive one the closer you get to departure.

So when you fly, make sure you stick to a discount carrier because their last minute walk up fares should you ever need one are really not that bad.

Not sure if its still this way, but for the first couple of years after 9/11, September 11th was a cheap date to book since no one wanted to fly on that day.

Late night would probably find the least people online. I don't know if there's a best day, but rates are cheaper if you buy way in advance.

I would say either late night/early morning and usually about mid week, that's when most sites send out sales and things :)
