Yes it is in the Torah and it is kosher. Why does it seem unlikely? The Torah is divine, dictated by G-d and written down by Moses.

In the Torah or Old Testament for a mammal to be kosher it must have 2 requirements:
1) chews it's cud
2) has split hooves

An American Buffalo has both those requirement thus rendering it kosher however it doesn't use the words specifically to mean a bison

No, its not.

The general category of bovines (cows) is, but sub groups such as buffalo's are not.

Actually how the argument goes is that their are two requirements for an animal to be Kosher. It must have split hooves and chews its cud. The Torah lists all animals that have (or look like they have) one of these two traits.

For example: It lists the pig as the only animal with split hooves and dose not chew its cud.

No other animal has been found on Earth that has split hooves and dose not chew its cud, besides the pig.

Yes the american buffalo endangered because its number is decreasing and the process is so fast but if the conservation sectors take proper care of it then there is no more problem of this any more
