If you are comparing prayer with magic spells, then I suppose a spell isn't a respectful "request" -- rather it is a set formula, or a form of manipulation of the spirit world.
God seems to resent any attempt to manipulate him into doing something irregardless of it is his will or not. Apparently it is disrespectful.

it isn't any stronger or significant. i've had more "blessings" from a universal power at dead shows during scarlet begonias than from any prayer i have ever said. besides, the houston oilers never went to or won a superbowl, and i did pray for that.

well God is the only one i know that has ever answered prayer! there isnt anyone or anything else that can! so ask the ones that worshipped the golden calf. did their calf bless them or save them? there is none that is equal to my God!
