Our miniature poodle lost a dewnail on her right front paw. With NSAID's, she's mostly recovered and only limps slightly. This happened about a month ago, and we see no sign of the nail growing back (although it might have started to, and we haven't noticed).

Some people intentionally remove the dew claws to prevent them from being torn off. It won't grow back but it won't bother her any either.

If she's just literally 'lost' the dew claw, i.e accidentally ripped it off, it should grow back. They only don't grow back when they've been surgically removed, because this involves removing the whole digit. If the nail's just been ripped off, the nail bed should still be present so it should still grow.

You'll have to ask your vet really, because I don't know how much of the actual claw is gone, but the vet who gave you the NSAIDs will!

Dogs do just fine without their dewclaws though.
