Yes. This is my experience. We each have a guardian and a tormentor. I find it very sad when some Christians think that the devil can't touch them once they are "saved." That is unbiblical.
There is a book I love. I can't recommend it enough and yet, it's out of print. Ancrene Wisse. It's a guide book for anchoresses that dates back to the 13th century.
People think certain things are always good. Such as prayer. But if we spend all our time in prayer and neglect our homes and families, then that prayer is no longer good. We have given over to self-indulgence. Most likely due to the urgings of our tormentor.

Satan is the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2), which means we breathe in his rebellious nature and are influenced by him, whether we choose to be or not. There is therefore no need for a personal demon. Satan's nature (aka human nature) influences us, until our eyes are opened and we come to the reality of Christ. Matthew 18:10 will answer your question about children and guardian angels.
While the scenario of angels and demons fighting over a child's soul sounds exciting, it has no scriptural basis.

The idea of a good angel on one shoulder and an evil demon on the other shoulder is not a Christian idea, but a Muslim one. This is a Islamic idea that has hit mainstream for many years... note the good guy bad guys stuff in cartoons. This is not a Christian idea and is not found in the Bible.
The demons are fallen angels and are not damned souls or anything like that. Demons have influence, but it is a person's free will that chooses God or not.

Personally, I think it's a bit too, "mythical" for my taste. I don't know if I think that good and evil truly battle over individual souls like that. Yes, they both play a part in our lives, but not quite that 1-on-1. It's a way to explain those forces at work, but I would put it in the category of allagory or creation myth. That's my thoughts, at least.

I'm not Catholic.
I don't think you have a guardian angel and demon. angels are more powerful than demons, but of course, demons are more infulential than angels.
I think we're born here, we go through life, we choose, we live, we die. if you see an angel, you're in the minority. the Holy Spirit talks to man personally. if you see a demon, you're either gifted or insane. if you come into contact with demons, you're human

When you see a very tasty sweet on a shop shelf, and feel hungry, and do not have enough money to buy it, you hear two voices inside you. One says, "Just wait till the shopkeeper is busy with another customer, and steal the sweet when he is not looking" . Another voice says "No do not steal it, the shopkeeper will lose money, and his family will suffer if you steal" . The first voice is from a demon who always tempts you with worldly things to sin , and wants to see you get into trouble by making you a thief, and getting you caught, feel ashamed of yourself, and eventually get you into jail, and the second voice is from your guardian angel guarding you from sin, and saving you from the dangers caused by following wrong paths.

That's folk theology, far more manichean than the official magisterial theology of the church. The devil is not an "anti-god" with a fleet of counterparts to every created being in God's kingdom... the devil is a fallen angel, a fool... a powerful fool, but by no means God's equal.

Interesting especially since the catholics stole the idea of purgatory from Dante in 1294 when he did the Inferno. It would make sense that anything based on a fantasy is also a fantasy.

'Call it a day
When night becomes our mad escape
Forgetting the things you mean to say
When all the right words come too late and
Everything falls...'
I like that song. No, I don't believe every child has a demon assigned.

I would hope that angels and demons would have something better to do than play metaphysical nursmaid each and every one of us. Aren't we supposed to have free will, or something?
I think you're best off considering this a sort of symbolic metaphor for the conflicting natures in our psyches.
