They can, but they don't digest. Dogs have a really short digestive track.

Yes, dogs can eat egg shells. Many people who feed their dogs the BARF diet (raw and meaty bones and veggies) use egg shell powder as a calcium supplement for their dogs.
Egg shells are an excellent source of calcium and can be ground up in a coffee grinder and sprinkled on food as a supplement. Some dogs will eat egg shells whole with no problems. My dog always tries to pick fallen eggs shells up off the street (from bird's nests etc). I don't let her eat those, but from eggs from the store--no problem.
Don't listen to all these crazy people. Just research Raw diets on line and you will see it is not uncommon to feed ground eggshells.

There is a small chance of food poisoning with raw shells. Cooked shells like from boiled eggs don't have that bacteria on them. And yes they can eat them. The calcium is good for them. In fact just feed whole boiled or raw eggs to them (if you choose to use raw).

It's not a matter of SHOULD, but they CAN. Some RAW/BARF feeders give their dogs whole, raw eggs.
