You should type in her name into any of the search engines and see if her name comes up. If it does not, try going into the French Artist's directory on line and see if you can locate her through there.
In which City, Country did you purchase this Art? Look through that City's Artist Forums and directories as well.

Or you can take good clear photographs of the artist's signature and painting, then go to http://photobucket.com/ or http://photobucket.com/ for free, and Up load and post the photographs of your painting to show to one of the following reputable appraisers should they ask you to submit them on line.

Go to a nearby university library where they have a fine-arts college. The fine-arts college may have their own library separate from the main library.

Ask the reference librarian for a "Catalogue d'Raison" for the artist' name. If the artist is not known, then ask for a catalogue of artists to find out more about her.

Have you tried finding out if she is a member of an artist's union if so which one, also I suggest you get a list of galleries in the area she lives in for example:

http://www.tate.org.uk/

or try

http://www.artchive.com/gallries.htm

if not then try searching the internet by her name - there's definitely going to turn something up - like an article someone might have written about her, etc.

good luck!
