For the people who say that they will date someone they're attracted to and had a great personality, regardless of race...
My question is, generally, when you're out somewhere, do you still only tend to look at and approach people of your same color, initially? And if someone of another color happens to approach you, THEN you go for it? I know things such as fear/timidity, surroundings, not being sure if the other person is interested, and certain circumstances can be factors that can either encourage or discourage you...but in all, if skin color doesn't matter to you, are you pretty much equally attracted to all races, or do you still find yourself more partial to your own group, but with "occasional" interest in people of other groups, OR is it strictly on an individual basis?
*Note: Of course this doesn't apply to everyone because not every dates people of other colors...

Actually, I believe for most people, they're attracted to people whom they have the most in common with. However, this attraction is just initial. If you spend time with people of other cultures and races, naturally you become attracted to some of their qualities. Proximity is one thing that affects attraction. Human beings tend to over time acquiesce to their surroundings. We develop our preferences based on that and our experiences. So, it's pretty much an individual thing. I personally prefer members of my own culture, but that's more a function of that I don't have that much cultural interaction with the other races. But if I did, I'm pretty sure there'd be some people I'd be attracted to.

It depends on personality personally. If someone acts ghetto for instance, I'm NOT going to be attracted to the person no matter what race or how the guy looks. But, not to be stereotypical, certain races are more prone to acting ghetto depending on the area you live so I'd be less likely attracted to them and more drawn to my own race (although some in my race can be just as ghetto, depending on the area like I said). I am attracted to people who are "white" even if they aren't white on the outside. It's not because I'm racist though because I'm truely not. It just a certain personality and traits that I look for but it goes beyond skin color. I won't hate someone or refuse to date someone because they aren't white. It's just what I've grown up around and the environment that I was raised in of why I like the type of people that I like. I'm white but I've been dating a Chinese guy for over three years. Out of 4 boyfriends, 2 were white.

Well i do date women of color and have for a while now and i really don't get along with my own race and never did and only dated maybe a couple of times of my own race. And all my friends are black and so are my girlfriends. And the few friends that i do have that are white and if i am with a woman that was black i wouldn't feel fear of what the other person is thinking cause i am with the woman i want to be with and they can take it or leave it.

Hmm interesting question. Well personally, i only go for black guys. I'm not racist or prejudice. But my preference are black guys, and of course its not all about what people look like, it is about what is in the inside, and that's exactly what i go for.
But regardless of what's in the inside, you have to be physically attracted to someone, right? And, i am attracted to black guys.
I have never dated a white guy before, so maybe i will never know, but i do know that right now, i am very happy with my choice.
So i think that it is strictly on an individual basis why people go for what they for. Its a matter of the mind.

thats a good question. I am from an area with a lot of diversity. I don't think its wrong for people to date other races, nor do I think it is wrong for someone to prefer someone within their race as well. Where I am from there are a lot of interracial couples, the main reason is because people relate to others in similar situations, whether it be class, race, etc. I would classify myself as someone who primarily is attracted to my own race, but have dated outside my race briefly. I don't really go out looking for a particular race, but I find my own race is usually much quicker to approach me before another race.

The answer is no, I do not initially look for my own race, actually the reverse. But an attractive woman is an attractive woman. Thats the first step right? Being attracted to someone? Then it just goes from there.

i don't approach people of my same colour initially. i go for anyone really. i tend to be more attracted to certain races than others but all races have guys that i would be attracted to. but it seems like mixed couples is still a big deal because i'm clearly white and my bf is clearly brown and people give us looks all the time as if we're weird.

All races are the same! If you were approached by a menacing Alien, and you were a female. You would not run around until you found a white man, would you? You would run to a human being for protection. Have a good day.

Well it all depends on the individual, each person to me has a different trait that I may or may not be attractive too. I think the environment has a lot to do with it also what ever is going on at the time......

well let me tell you, i have been married 2 times; once was a white man second is now and he is black. we have children of all colors in our home. we have 1 white, one black, and 2 mixed.
i do not see color so therefore i guess I'm just really different from everyone else out there.
a person is a person we all bleed the same no matter what our skin color is.
