The existence of God cannot be proven or disproven so I don't want any answer similar to that. Mainly Christianity, why do Atheists believe it is not worthy to devote their life to a religion?

I guess I need to be more specific. All I want to know is legitiment and defendable reasons as to why someone would be an Atheist. What are your REASONS for not believing in God. You have to have reasons for the things you do.

I am a Christian, a devoted servant of Christ. I simply want to understand what the Atheist viewpoint is. Is it so hard of a question and so wrong to want to understand the other side of the argument? Atheists, I am asking you in a non-attacking manner to help me understand your side. How can I be a Christian and debate with people who don't share my views, and not even know what I am talking about. Don't think of it as aiding the enemy, I want you to understand our side as well. That is the only way for a proper debate.

The proof for religion is sparse, and I've lived happily without it. I was born in a family that didn't force a religion, and hence, I never really 'got it'.

Atheism comes at the end of studying religion. I studied Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. None of them appealed to me. Although, Buddhism made more sense and I do like to follow a few of their common sense rules.

Now, it's all good to want to believe that something happens when you die. But...why the hostility? People start wars over this belief. People argue and fight about it. People hate other people. People try to convert other people.

It's a big waste. I'd rather live my life happily than live my life as an obedient servant.

And again with Pascals wager!! Do you not think that if there is a god he may have seen through the "I don't really believe but I'll say I believe just cos I'd rather not gamble on the chance I'll end up in hell!" At least credit your god with some intelligence! Once you've come to the conclusion that it's extremely highly unlikely that there is a god, then you can't just turn on belief!

Because if you base your life on what can be proven negatively, then you must, by default, believe everything is true until disproved. Every work of fiction is as true as every work of nonfiction. The universe could have been created by chance, by God or by space aliens. Everything, no matter how absurd, must be held as viable until invalidated. Since doing this is usually impossible, hopefully you can see why such a way of thinking is not scientifically/logically valid. Through reason, we require positive proof.

If the existence of God can't be proven, and it can't, than its not worthy of belief as fact; like anything else.

It's a waste of time and effort. If you don't have any evidence showing you that there's anything beyond those few earthly decades of existence... there's no time to lose. Live and love to the fullest!

I tried for many years to *choose* to be a christian...it just didn't work out for me...so I went for the only logical conclusion that seemed right for me....atheism...

You should devote your life to Christ who died for you, not the "religion."

Because it's most reasonable. Living with cognative dissonance is uncomfortable.
