Depends how good you are with a camera.... I've seen some pretty bad things happen with camera's and photographers..Example: the picuture's didn't come out, camera malfunction... You may want to have some money up front to cover that type of mishap.. Are you good at writing contracts? That cover everything or you might not get paid.. I would practice and perhaps get some photos for a layout together before I would venture into wedding photography... It's true there can be big bucks for wedding photographers, but are you ready for the responsibitity involved? I would maybe try Senior pictures....Maybe use friends as subjects... Pets are also good.. People will pay big money for pet pictures.. Also, do you have motorcross or something of that nature by you... I did motorcross pictures' with a digital and printed buttons on the spot to sell to parents/friends.. $20 a pop ! Not too shabby and not much overhead involved.. Maybe, get your feet wet with that type of stuff... If you still want to do weddings- just make sure you have a back up camera/supplies..

I would try to start a small profile.
Take pics of people, like a couple, a sunset, kids playing, sports games ( little leagues, high school football).
Save those photos and show them to people, tell them you can do a job for a fair price.
Remember that practice makes perfect.
