I’m looking at buying a new bike. Because I'm only a recreational and leisurely rider I don't want to invest much money but still want a good product. I've looked at the Jamis bike and it looks good, but I haven't heard anything about it. I was wondering if anybody has had any experiences dealing with a Jamis - good or bad.

I'm considering a bike from the Citizen series.

I'm not sure what style of bike you're looking at but I can tell you about the Jamis mountain bike I bought several years ago. I purchased it new. After normal use the head tube split along the side (not where it's welded to the frame. Jamis was excellent about replacing the frame along with the swingarm which was a newer design. It was a lower end Dakar and other than that one problem it has been very dependable. I also purchased two Jamis cruiser bikes for my parents which have been thoroughly satisfactory

Jamis bikes are just as good as some of the better known brands. They don't spend a lot on advertising, which makes them cheaper, but also lesser known. The Citizen series is very good. If your local bike shop has to order the bike, it can take a little longer than some brands due to how Jamis handles their warehousing and shipping (third party does it for them). If you're not in a huge hurry, they have great bikes at a great price. Highly recommended.

Hi, I just bought a Jamis Cross Country 2.0 for my wife. She didn't want a pink girly bike. I didn't want to spend a lot on a bike that may not be ridden a whole lot and this was a perfect fit. For under $500 this bike is very sound mechanically. Great brakes, smooth shifting, comfortable seat. I tried a WalMart bike and realized that a $74 bike is a $74 bike. She would never have ridden it. The Cross Country is designed for men and women and I would surely recommend it for what you are looking for. If you buy a cheaper bike you will never ride it.

Jamis makes a good bike. I worked at a camp where we would take kids and parents out onto mountain trails. there were many wrecks, endos and wipeouts. The bikes held up admiralbly. Out of the 25 new bikes I put together at the beginning of the summer, only one had to be put down, but that was because of a pretty significant wreck by one of the staffers. The trails were pretty rough too. I think you would be happy with a Jamis. I will make my next bike a Jamis, but that is because of a few connections.
Happy cycling.

Jamis is a good brand, if it's good priced and you like the bike go for it.

not a bad brand at all. actually, their frames are on the inexpensive side, so you can spend on better component and wheelset upgrades. bonus!
