I have a mini schnauzer and they are 12th on the list of intelligence in dogs. My guy is very affectionate, obedient and loving, he has never destroyed anything or bit anyone, he's all anyone could want in a dog.

This is the same as asking which is better, Ford vs. Chevy, or Honda vs. Toyota. Each of these fine Terrier breeds is 'best' for some people. First of all, are you a Terrier person? Terriers are intelligent, high-energy, frequently vocal, and independent (read: bull-headed). They are all fine family dogs, but sometimes each is not particularly enamored of children or other dogs. All require a fair amount of exercise, but can find it inside the house doing 'chase games'.
That being said, I'm a Westie person, and my heart lies with them. Our previous Westie was great with my wife and me, but only tolerated other people. Our current Westie loves everyone: if she's standoffish with a repair person in the house, it's a real sign to watch that person carefully. She also loves kids of all kinds, cats, birds, etc. She does NOT like the F-O-X (she knows the word) in the backyard, or the power-walker in the neighborhood (who knew?). At the risk of offending someone, I'll suggest that Scotties are generally a bit less outgoing, and that Schnauzers are somewhere in-between. Westies are prone to allergies and skin problems. You'll have to google the other 2 breeds for their specific health concerns. A final word: Terriers, and all other dogs, do best with firm but loving care. They are most comfortable knowing the boundaries in their 'pack'. "No Molly" is a term we wore out when training Miss Molly as a puppy. She's still spoiled rotten though: MSMOLLY is my license plate.

Of the three, I really love the Scotties, but I might be biased because I'm owned by one ;) Each of these breeds have their own quirks and make great pets for the right people.

Scotties have a tendency to have a mind of their own and follow their own agenda (typical terrier). Hamish is very obedient, mind you. Training has to be firm but not harsh; a Scottie is a surprisingly very sensitive dog.

I took Hamish to puppy kindergarten and socialized him the moment he came into my life, and I think this has really helped shape him into a terrific dog. He's *very* outgoing, happy little guy who loves meeting people, but he is a squirrel worst nightmare (he's never caught one but that doesn't stop him from trying), he loves chasing them. Though they are known to be dog aggressive, he gets along great with our Shiba Inu (who bosses him around). He's content on long walks but is happy to just sit next to me when I'm watching TV. He makes some pretty unusual sounds (little mutters he makes, he likes to talk). As far as barkiness, he will bark when people come to the door but soon quietens; Hamish isn't a big barker. Some Scotties are more vocal than others.

They are generally healthy little dogs but are prone to allergies, skin problems, bladder cancer, Vom Willbrands disease. I have stuck luck wtih Hamish and the only problem he has is hypothyroid, which the vet believes is from his age (he's ten). It is important to thoroughly screen breeders to ensure that they're (we did this when we bought Hamish from an excellent breeder in Fort Erie).

They do require quite a bit of grooming; we brush him daily and have him clipped every couple months.

I haven't had too much experience with Westies, but in attitude, they're all terrier.

Schnauzers can be vocal (in my experience) if owners don't keep it in check. Again, individual dogs can be more vocal than others. There's three sizes; the Miniature, the Standard and the Giant.

Westies, Scotties, and Schnauzers are all terrific dogs, but if you are looking into getting any of them, be sure to do plenty of research to make sure you are getting the right dog to fit your lifestyle.

Schnauzer are the most tractable and trainable, but still feisty. Westies are very fun dogs but given the right situation, they become the real terriers they are and are tough as nails. Scotties are serious barkers, one person dogs, dour and very intense. When I lived in England, I let mine outside to pee, 5 minutes later it had a small fox by the throat. They are very very strong and have big teeth for their size. That said, they are addicting to a few. Your choice!!!!

I've owned all breeds listed and my choice is the Mini Schnauzer,as they seem to be highly intelligent.Although all three breeds are very good tempermented and do well with children and other pets.

A miniature Schnauzer is the best because it has the best bark!

The best is a rescue dog. There are rescue organizations for just about every breed you could possible imagine. Please, think about rescuing a dog rather than supporting more breeding.
