We live in VA. We're looking for a place preferably without a long waiting period and where it will be easy to find an officiant. We're moving to the UK and I cannot start my student dependent visa application unless we are in a legally sanctioned union. (as long as its recognized by the state its given in the UK will recognize it)

Anywhere in the states, I think you have to reside in the state for a certain period like two years. I thought I just saw that parts of Canada now recognized it though. Congrats on finding a keeper regardless and best of luck on getting all your stuff together before you leave for the UK.

First off, congratulations (and my girl and I are looking for a place to get married too). Try Massachusetts or Vermont. there are a few other places that allow civil unions , though. I wish you both the best of luck!!!

Just go to the courthouse. There is a 48 hour wait generally.

Good luck!

I got married at the court house in Richmond. Went right from the Clerk's office to the officiate - Cost about $20 and took 10 minutes.

in 1984, we had to take blood tests - but I don't think you need them any more.

If in doubt, there's always Maryland.

Professional Advice --- Clerk of Court. Where you get your marriage license. They will marry you right there as well. I would suggest taking a witness for each of you and your birth certificates, drivers license, and social security card. there are usually no lines and you dont have to make an appointment.

Is this a gay marriage? If it is take a look on Pride or Gay websites. If not city hall should work just fine.

Best of luck!

Just call the local courthouse and ask what the requirements are to get married by a justice of the peace. It's usually just a blood test -- a day or two -- and then you get your license and you can marry anywhere.
