I DO NOT think branding a dog is an intelligent thing to do. There are much better things to do to insure your dog is found if it gets lost, like going to the vet and having a micro chip implanted in your dog. A micro chip is less painful for your dog too.
On second thought, maybe if your dog runs away it's for a good reason. You sound like a strange person who either enjoys feeling pain or inflicting pain. Your dog would, no doubt be happier living with someone kinder than yourself.

Ok, obviously you are not serious and are just trying to provoke pet lovers to get a good laugh as to how mad you can make somebody. But, if you are serious, you should be turned into the Humane's Society for cruelity to animals. Or better yet, branded on your forhead with the letters I-D-I-O-T, just in case anyone was wondering still after reading your question.
On a serious note, some vets can micro chip your pet for indentity purposes, you might want to look into this information as an option, if you were seriously worried about losing your pet.

There's probably an animal ordinance in your city/town/county that makes this practice illegal (and the evidence of what you did doesn't 'go away' either).
To brand a willing human is one thing. To brand an animal that will feel the unecessary pain is another thing.
If you do brand your dog, and he does get lost, consider that he *wants* to get lost from you after what you did to him. Then, when the animal control police find him, they will know who to throw in jail.

People are known to do this, but it is cruel. He's not consenting to it, nor does he know why you're doing it. Get a chip instead. You can take him to the vet and they will implant a chip under his skin. It's much more effective, because you can actually track your dog this way if he gets lost. Plus, all dog shelters, pounds, vets, have the equipment to scan your dog. If you want i.d. so that the average person can get a quick contact number if he ever gets out or gets lost, you can buy collars with metal plates with your name, address, and phone number engraved on them. It's much more humane in my opinion.

That is both inhumane and dangerous for the dog! If you want to keep track of it, buy a collar or get your animal chipped. If your dog got an infection from the brand, you could kill it.

I'm all for branding -- when it is done with permission. I've witnessed humans getting branded, and that's just fine.
But you are heading toward sadism.
If you brand your dog, he might get lost, but more likely he will run away from his cruel owner.
There are many alternatives to branding a pet, ranging from a collar with a tag to a microchip.

well I personally hope your neighbors turn you in for animal cruelty. I know I would if I saw your dog branded.
Why would you want to hurt your dog?????
