Yes, it is incredibly annoying when cars try to get ahead by using a lane that they know is going to end. But I say let them in. Trying to block them out can be dangerous and by taking out your small "revenge" on the car you are simply making yourself more angry. Yes, they are being a jerk, but why stoop to that level? In a traffic jam, it's best to just try to be calm and keep a smile on your face. It's all about what you want to put out into the world - calm and happy or angy and impatient?

this is my pet peeve, if it's poorly marked and cars can't see that the lane will be closed, I let one(and only one) car(or SUV) in, but.......and this is a big but, I want a thank you wave. On the other hand, if the fact that the lane will be closing is clearly marked blocks ahead, and it's obvious that the other cars just want to cut in, no way, I don't let them in! I don't blame them for trying, but I do get mad and the saps who let these pushy people in, like they are far more important than the rest of us, and we can just wait, how rude, ok, now I'm all riled up....

I try to let them in if I can. The reason why is because you never know who is going to go on a pistol rage and start shooting you. There are a lot of crazies out there who will follow you or try to run you over cause of their road rage.

I alternate. If the car ahead of me got in, then I'm next and the car behind me can squeeze in too. I don't care what kind of car it is... we are all hating life at that moment.

I let in one car - if they're not jerky about it. Some drivers' idea of merging means "go real fast until we run out of lane then bully our way in" - I'll purposely block them from getting in then.

I follow the "alternate" method. That is, I am obligated to let one car in, then I go, then the next car that wants to get in gets behind me... and so on. Simple, and fair.

I allow people in who stop and check to see if you will let them over, who don't zip ahead to avoid the line, and who are being patient.
Otherwise, forget it.
