I have a DVD+R but its not big enough to hold both the mdf and mds files.

Its the DVD itself and the menu.

I've heard of double layer DVD disks and DVD-R but I have no idea which I should use.

Do I use a different one or just get another pack of DVD+R in a bigger storage size?

I'm using Alcohol 120%, btw.

cheers.

Try a program that can handle compression ratios, or upgrade to the DVD DL for 8.5 GB worth of storage.

All single-layer DVDs, +R or -R, have the same storage. You can:
- Get a double-layer drive and disks;
- Use a high-definition drive and disks (very expensive);
- The simplest / fastest / cheapest way is to get a free (or trialware) compression program from Download.com, such as "DVD Shrink", to make your contents fit on a single layer. There is a bit of tradeoff in quality.

All DVD have the 4.7GB capacity except for the DL (dual layer) which have 9GB. You DVD burner must be able to burn the DL so check to see before you buy the media.
It should have a rating such as
DVD+-/DL

i dunno ... but why not try and use Nero as i had the same problem so i just changed the setting (reduce video quality to extend DVD space) and to tell you the truth i didn't really notice much loss quality wise
