I mean why do people think they are chosen ones when they have done nothing to contribute

like e.g. Islam

Prophet Muhammed said "You want to love Allah, love thy creation first" and

He didnt say Muslims but Creation

"Charity is a duty unto every Muslim. He who hath not the means thereto, let him do a good act or abstain from an evil one. That is his charity"

Then Christanity

Jesus Christ said James 2: 14My friends, what good is it to say you have faith, when you don't do anything to show that you really do have faith? Can that kind of faith save you? If you know someone who doesn't have any clothes or food, You shouldn't just say, "I hope all goes well for you. I hope you will be warm and have plenty to eat." What good is it to say this, unless you do something to help? Faith that doesn't lead us to do good deeds is all alone and dead.

Judging by the way some people of both those (and other) religions act, it sure seems that many of them miss the point.

Often people do understand it but reject living their faith's ethical demands because they are noteasy orpampering to selfishness and violence. As GK Chesterton said(or something likeit)" It is not that Christianity has been tried and has been found wanting. It has been tried and has been found difficult, therefore many do not try it at all." I'm sure thae same can be said of most religions and ethical systems.

No, it's not hidden. The message of all religions is "Do as we say, not as we do."

Believers just miss it.
