http://www.equibase.com and http://www.drf.com both offer free 'virtual stables'. You can sign up online and choose the horses you wish to follow. Then every time they have a public workout, or are entered in a race, you recieve an e-mail notification.

Not really; until entries are taken for a given race, you can't really know, and even then that doesn't guarantee the horse will run.

Are you trying to follow a particular stakes-class horse? If that's the case, you can check out these websites: http://www.bloodhorse.com/, http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/default.aspx,
http://www.drf.com/

These websites carry articles about what's current in racing and breeding, and you can usually follow the career of a major stakes horse through the articles on these sites.

If the horse you're trying to follow isn't a top-level stakes horse, you've got a much tougher task. I hope this helps.

Sure -- go to www.drf.com and register. Then set an alert for either a horse, trainer, or race. Then you will get an e-mail when the horse in entered to race. Usually about 3 days before the race.
