Good Question!!!
I could only stress walking, biking and possibly picking an affordable fun hobby such as tennis or something. At that age I had a cheap, cheap tennis racket and would go to the school tennis courts (free) for fun. Maybe having a routine walk together in the evening would be great - especially if you are a parent. Gives you time to talk :)

There is no magic answer to this question. Ultimately your body will respond better to certain types of activity. Not everyone is a long distance runner (i.e., their body structure is suited for it).
By this age it is actually safe to lift weights, you just need to be careful not to push it too hard or a little bit of growth can be stunted. At this age your body is best suited for growth (hence puberty). If jogging for 30 minutes isn't up your alley, no worries. How about some short, but intense sprints? It will get your heart rate up and really force your body to adapt.

Avoid weight lifting and machines as these are thought to stunt your growth. Cardiovascular exercise is best, like running, jogging, walking, swimming, a fitness class. Basically anything that doesn't involve weights.

alternate between an easy 30 min run one day, then a hard 20 min run the next. 45 sit ups, 25 push-ups and some leg lifts per day will also help to keep you in shape

Try Taebo. It works if you stick to it. Also do situps and squats and do things that involve moving your legs and arms at the same time. If you have good knees climb up and down stairs quickly and every time you get to the bottom and are going back up skip several stairs at a time, just be careful.

jogging is the only workout routine they really need, if kids went out and played all the time like they used too that would be sufficient enough

Swim, bicycle, run.
If you do two of these three for at least 2 hours every day, you will be fit and have a svelte, beautiful body.

well see its hard because of your age, make sure you dont push your self and a good diet is more important than working out,
but swimming, minor weight lifting, stairs, a mile a day keeps the doctor away. just keep it simple
