It's for an intercom system I am installing and I don't know if it will make a difference; Thanks.

CAT5e is electromagnetically shielded, so it is better to use if you're installing it near power cables or other sources of EMI. If it is just short distances or there isn't anything that would interfere with the cable, CAT5 is fine. Usually CAT5e isn't that much more expensive, so it would be wise to just put in the extra couple dollars.

Since an intercom normally only requires cat 3 (phone wire) either cat 5 or cat 5E would do. You would not see any difference in performance in this installation.

you will need 5E for you intercom system because it will be close to ele. lines in the wall because the shielding is supposedly better

(but both will work)
