I think it's kinda weird that we send out the most missionaries by far among the worlds nations, but our culture is deteriorating, and Christians are becoming less devout. I can guarantee you, any African is more fired up about Christ than most Americans. We've done a good job OVER THERE,
but now we need to help out OVER HERE!
OR
Should countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and all the other South African countries send their priests here?
I think it should be a combination of both.
So should our missions be aimed not a foreign lands, but our own back yard?

We do have missions in our own backyard.
In my area we have the Gospel Mission and Central Union Mission for the homeless and addiction abusers. The Missions also reach out to the Hispanic community made up of those who may or may not be here legally. They are very needy.
We have many soup kitchens and organizations that provide dental procedures for those who can't afford it, and teach computer skills to help those get a job.
There is also Metro Ministries in Brooklyn, NY that has a Sidewalk Sunday School ministry to inner city kids. You can sponsor the kids. There are many missions out there, but you don't always hear about them. But we could use more hands.
Good question.

Yes. I have read where a minister on that continent remarked that they don't need missionaries, they need money. He went on to say that though they are about as poor as dirt(my phrase) they still saw the great need to send their missionaries to America!
I think the overwhelming reason people in America have gone their own ways, is due to the fact that for a whole generation now, evolution and disbelief in God has been shoved down the throats of almost every single child in the public school system.
Hey, no God, no judgement! Where then are the morals and stability? From human "wisdom?"

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has over 50,000 full-time missionaries throughout the world. The Gospel must be taught to all nations, so it has the responsibility of having missionaries in all countries. However, there are more missions here in the US than in any other country. While many missionaries are sent to the rest of the world, most countries are providing their own missionaries and many send missionaries back to the US to serve in missions here.
I don't know what other churches do, but that's how it works in mine.

The problem is not the missionaries... its the Church. The Church has been asleep for so long that it has allowed murder in the tens of milions in abortions, pastors to be ridiculed for not allowing known, active homosexuals to become members.
The church must wake up and realize Christ's meaning when he said "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26-27)
This is NOT an open invitation to hate, but to hate those things that God does, to pray for a change in the lifestyle and to hold them accountable for their actions until they show true repentance for their actions and flee from the sin.
The missionaries can stay, we need to wake up and accept our calling as the Holy Priesthood. (1 Peter 2:5)

Not a bad idea except 96% of the ministers/evangelists/pastors etc are based in the US and they are teaching/ministering to 6% of the world's population - in the US.
If you check, you will find that many of these people are from foreign lands - Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, etc - ministering to the US citizens for the most part.
Ironic, isn't it?

There are plenty of people trying to convert here.
And have you not seen the studies and polls? The US is one of the most religious nations on earth, despite the fact that it's one of the most industrialized as well. Comparing industrialized nations, we are at the top of the list whereas countries in Europe have moved on and their religious fervor is falling.
The reason why religion is doing well in places like Africa is that they are still third-world, less educated countries. Again, it says something about less educated people falling into the trap of religion.

Maybe the focus should be on helping people rather than trying to convert them. If groups of people would spend half as much time and energy on volunteering, donating, rebuilding, and working toward social change as they do praying and shouting on street corners and shoving pamphlets in people's faces just imagine what the world would look like.

I think that is an interesting point.
BUT.
Can you imagine a society where 99% have never heard the Gospel?
Can you imagine countries which claim to have religious freedom yet pass laws to severely restrict religious organizations and their materials. In American we are utterly spoiled. Yes, we have the mix of everything but at least the Bible isn't banned!
I'm heartbroken over people in my own family, but in the least they've been exposed to the word. Somewhere out there 'over there' are families thirsting for the Word and don't even know it exists!
Had the early church stopped to fix people in their area.......or even Jesus stopped to only help the disbelieving Israelites first...........just think about how His message would have been hindered.
