Doesn't proving the existence of God defeat the purpose of faith? I mean, 1+1=2 is a proven fact so it doesn't require any faith for me to believe it. so if you could absolutely prove God in a similar fashion you’d eliminate faith because you’d just know it as fact. I’d say that’s the beauty of faith, that you have to believe in things unseen and unknowable. Of course, it's far too easy to twist faith into something divisive, which is a problem. But with a benevolent character a person can choose to believe or not in a way that encaputures their vision of questions that no human being ever has been able to sufficiently answer. there’s just something cool about that idea that you and me and everyone else is trying to answer a question that no one, no matter how educated or whatever, can answer with certainty. its like in the absolute infinity of the number of ways people might answer that question, you find a small piece of the infinity that you’re looking for.

I found Ivan an example of the case for God. "If there is no God all things are permitted". His atheism is self-centered and empty. Alyosha,on the other hand, shows that life with God is a struggle but meaningful. I found my life in God strengthened by reading anything by Dostoevsky

I think there is nothing potent about God being non-existant. Because He exists, and don't let some book tell you otherwise.

If you don't believe why do you have to have an argument on what you believe. If it reaffirms your thoughts and you feel satisfied with your stance then okay.
Why do you believe these writings of man over others is a bigger question?
Just asking to make you think...not trying to convert you in any way.

Never read the book; but you don't need to argue it once you have the evidence -- or more correctly, the complete LACK of evidence.
