This is what I think. atheists have nothing to fear. Not a God to believe in. What would this country become?

Don't take this question bad, it is just a question.

I just want the best person for the job to have it, and make the world a decent and safe place to live.

What are you talking about, atheists have nothing to fear? You think we don't fear being attacked? You think we don't fear nuclear war? I'm sorry, but that is an incredibly ridiculous statement. Just because we don't believe in your invisible magical super-being, doesn't mean we have no fear.

And I want someone for president who is smart, kind, and a GOOD politician. Someone who knows how to talk and how to listen. Someone who respects the rights and beliefs of everyone. Someone who can solve problems. Someone who can get along with and is respected by leaders of other countries. I don't give a rat's butt what their religious beliefs are, as long as they respect mine.

yes, but they would have to be an atheist that accepted all religions and didn't push atheism ever, and never would start arguments about religion, and when someone started an argument with them, they wouldn't preach. There's nothing worse than a president that preaches their religion to the country, like Bush for example! Maybe, if we had an atheist president, people might be more tolerant of other religions, and maybe finally understand that the constitution encourages all religions under our on flag.

Yes, why not?

Yes, this is just a question, but a loaded one. You are implying that because an atheist doesn't answer to any god, that he/she has no morals, and therefore would be a danger to the country. I say this is nonsense.

Would an atheist do any worse than the dimwit we have in office now?

I couldn't judge someone's abilities by their religious (non)affiliation alone, but all other things being equal, I would rather have an atheist than any believer as president.

The office of president involves making many decisions that impact thousands or millions of people. It would always be better to have someone who is as reasonable and rational as possible in that position.

Someone who believes in mythologies with no foundation already has demonstrated some lack of rationality.

Who knows what they would do, it would depend on the personality and mentality of the person, their beliefs are only a part of it. You could get an atheist who lies his way into power and tries to abolish religion, or you could get one who just lets it go and makes no acts against or for it, it can go a lot of directions.

Personally i don't care what the president believes, the end is going to come just as He said it would, so it wont matter who's in charge. I'll just keep my eyes open.

I do not care what religious beliefs the president has.

What is important is that his policies and actions are based on the real world and what will be truly effective at solving real problems.

I think that an atheist would be more likely to do that.

Plenty of religious presidents have done it too. It is just the current one who ignores science and ignores the advice of knowledgeable people.

Why is it that religion of a person should NOT be considered for almost every job but not for the most important job.

I mean a person can sue if he/she were asked what his/her religion was in an interview. But not in the case when applying for the president's position.

To be honest, I 'd give a rat's *** about the religion or color sex or or sexual orientation as long as he/she is good at being the president.

Religion has nothing to do with running a secular nation. I would only care about the President's religion if s/he were attempting to push it on the rest of the nation. Atheism in politics is religion neutral. That seems the most fair for all religions.

Hopefully an atheist president would crush the religious right. Preventing their increasingly succesful attempt at establishing christian theocracy in the US.

Do you realize that George W. Bush is your president ?

Why would you want someone who can't even understand why there is no GOD and why he was just invented by a bunch of Shepard's that live in the middle of a desert ?
