Hi Firstly, ignore the callous and uncaring. Why they bother if they're not interested in helping you and more interested in presenting their opinions to be validated in some obscure way simply from posting is a mystery to me.
However, you really must see your doctor. It sounds like you know that already anyway. So, is there a reason why you don't want to? I know sometimes not seeking help is a way of denying the feelings - if I don't go, then I can still pretend that I'm okay. Or it could be that you just can't physically face it. In that case, perhaps you can get someone to go with you or take you. Sometimes people do just want to sit and ride it out. That's okay too, as long as it is what you really want. Usually, though, those people wouldn't ask for advice, which you have done. Just know that it can get better and that you deserve to get better. Hope you feel better soon.

I suggest you get your kit on and go for a jog. When you get back have a nice cool shower and then a good feed. I turned 27 in february and its not that bad ya know. Only three years to go until 30 though so i think depression is a definate for most people our age. Just a number though, hey? Anyway, all the best artist etc were pretty much depressed. Either embrace this emotion and look to use it or do something to take you out of it. Activities should help but if not try ringing your BF and getting him to take you out.

Listen, I know how hard it is. You feel isolated and listless. But you must make that first step. I always talk to myself as if I were talking to a friend when I like get this. I often feel angry at myself for getting depressed. But you are, so there it is!
The old black dog is barking again. So this year as a birthday treat your going to get yourself to the doctor and do something about it. You won't feel better straight away, but you'll know you've started. Then you can have an unbirthday another time.
I'm sorry you feel like this and you are the one who has the power to start the healing process. When you feel really tearful exercise is good, even if you put an old record on that you like a dance like a woman possessed.
Blessings

You do need to go to your GP, that's what they are there for.
You need to think about what is causing you to feel this way, because until you do, you will feel the same.
When you feel like this, think about what is going through your mind at the time - is it one particular thing or lots of little things?
Your GP can give you medication which helps you deal with the problems, it does not in any way 'take them away' though! it may be that you need some therapy to help you understand why you are feeling this way, and how you can work through it.
I have suffered from depression for several years and saw a therapist, while taking medication, for 18 months which helped me greatly in dealing with my emotions and turning negative thoughts into more positiove ones.
One of the best tips i got from my therapist was 'flipping the coin', so when you are feeling like this and your head is full of negative thoughts, it can be easy (and trust me i know) to literally turn your feelings around and fill your mind with positive thoughts......look on the bright side...
BUT i also know how debilitating depression can be. I get days, or weeks where i feel like this and it actually makes me ill! i literally worry myself sick sometimes (am not on medication any more) but remember life goes on, be strong and just keep going.
This is how i deal with mine, i tell myself to lighten up and just KEEP GOING!
So please, take the first step and go to the doctor, they are used to it and it really isn't as scary as it seems.
the most important thing is looking after yourself, so please, FOR YOURSELF, do that !! :-)
Take Care though darlin and i promise, there will be sunnier days! :-) x x

Self-help organizations have become potent allies for people who are coping with mental illness or who care about someone with such an illness. For depression or other mental illnesses, self-help groups include:
National Mental Health Association (NMHA): (800) 969-6642; or, in a crisis: (800) SUICIDE (784-2433)
National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI): (800) 950-6264

Get to your doctors as your depression will only escalate the more negative you are the more it will get worse and go on for longer it will get you at your lowest and also get to the people that are close to you (including your new partner. )
My Hubby had severe Depression and was off of his work for 12 months his was caused by managers bulling him he had no release as it dominates everything that you do.
If your Dr suggests anti depressants don't panic as they are not addictive also he may suggest Diazapan if you have panic attacks or cant sleep.
If I can help anymore send an E-Mail . Take Care

If you put your energy towards helping the less fortunate then you will have lees energy to feel depressed. Volunteer at a children's hospital, Boy's and Girls Club or homeless shelter. After giving to others you will be pleasantly surprised by how much you get.
You could even help out at a senior center.

You had better go to a doctor and perhaps they will perscribe medication. Sometimes you really need it. I hope you get better.x
By the way, i am surprised at the answer "RN" gave you. A registered nurse should be more informed about how debilitating depression can be i would have thought!

You need to surround yourself around happy people and go out and do things that will keep your mind off of being sad or unhappy.
You only live once and you should try to make the best of it. Try to bring yourself to a happy person again so it does not affect your life and those who love you.

You need to see a GP. Just going there will make you feel better once you know something can be done for you. Please hurry because the sooner you start medication the more likely your going to benefit. This probably wont go away on its own.
