Don't know if my "good reason" will not be somebody else's dumb reason but in my view, government restrictions on what types of firearms can be owned by whom has reduced violent crime. Notwithstanding a recent surge in violent crime in a few cities last year, murder rates and violent crime have been decreasing for decades. One could argue that gun control laws have nothing to do with it but there is no question that if you have a firearm in your home, you have a much higher likelihood that someone in your family will be killed or wounded by that gun than the much, much lower chance that the gun will be needed to protect the family from criminals.

I've witnessed just such an event. My family and I were staying overnight with friends. The husband kept a 357 magnum loaded in his bedside drawer. My daughter, who was seven at the time, got up to go to the bathroom. I heard her scream and found her in my host's bedroom. She had mistakenly entered the wrong door. The bedside light was on and my "friend" was pointing the ****** cannon directly at her head. We spent the rest of our stay in a hotel. This was about the time of the Dirty Harry movies and this guy was a Clint Eastwood fanatic.

I find it interesting that many of my pro gun ownership friends tell me they have guns because of all of the terrible things that have happened to them and yet I have never owned a gun and have never been burglarized or assaulted by anyone. Nor has anyone in my family. Except of course while staying overnight with my gun toting friend. Go figure.

Gee... more misinformation from the idiotic "I'd never OWN a GUN... I'd call NINE ONE ONE... so I can be DEAD, DEAD, DEAD" crowd.

I have some NEWS FOR YOU... and that is GUN CONTROL DOESN'T WORK... I'll write that again, a bit slower so you can grasp it... GUN CONTROL DOESN'T WORK...

The only reason for gun control is to put another nail in the RIGHTS of AmeriKans because so many of them are too stupid to realize that, when they give up their GUNS... they will soon be giving up the rest of their RIGHTS.

The framers of the Constitution knew that a DICTATOR... Like George Bush... could not enslave an ARMED PUBLIC... take the guns away from the honest people, then the only people who have weapons are the criminals and the police... and, in most 3rd world countries... THEY ARE THE SAME PEOPLE.

Why do you anti-gun people write a STATEMENT as if it is FACT... when it isn't and there is NO WAY to justify TAKING THE GUNS out of the hands of honest citizens.

If you want your government to have all the guns, then move to a 3rd world country and you can have all the oppression you want.

Gun control is a steady grip, breath control, and a good sight picture.

Bad idea, as we see in England, gun crime went up along with many other crimes after they surrendered their guns.

It doesn't work, and anyone who says it does is only fooling themselves. Criminals do not buy guns through legal channels. Too many sources in the black market for that.

Ask any holocaust survivor as to why they couldn't defend themselves. Ask them how their rights were taken away little by little, one by one.
