My friend's computer blue screened a couple of days ago. He has a lot of music files on his computer. I can reformat it and reload his original software back on, but is there a way of saving the music with out recovery software. I'm not a total expert with computers yet, but I do know some things.

try doing a repair instead. If it is XP you can put the disc in and select to do a install and the it will find the partition and then will give you options choose repair that might work for you.

did you try f8 on start up and going to safe mode. or choose last known good config....just some options

There is a 5 step program called Selkie Rescue data recovery that saves your files from the dead computer to another computer I just went through this on my computer and it worked great all the info is not on my lap top until I can get the drive reformated or replaced.

Hope that helps

Actually there are a couple methods you can try.
Also depends on the type of hard drive connection your friend has. If he has an IDE connection, you can slave his hard drive to your computer and transfer the data from his hard drive to yours. The only problem is, if the blue screen is caused by a failing hard drive, then it can make the process quite frustrating.. Good luck.

If I were you; I will change my approach in fixing blue screen . . .

Try to run: The Last Known Good Configuration

Before reformat ...

You can try to reformat, but if its the hard drive, you need to break out the credit card and get another computer...either way, your data is gone
