It is not as much denial as it is becoming one with the creator. When we accept His love for us, and ask for His will to be done in our life, we want what He wants. We are not being obedient against our deepest emotions, we really want God's will to be done in our lives, whatever the cost.
Once we accept Him we have a richer life than we could have dreamed of before He came into our lives.

Denying does not mean living a full life. God desires for us to put Him first. Recognizing who He is. When we deny things it means putting them second to God, like family and friends. Often when one choose to follow God they only real thing they have to give up is sin. Sin is things that causes harm to you and your friends and God. Those things that in opposition to the word love. Anything that could cause harm to others mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically and so forth. Love is caring and sharing and putting yourself as not being as important.
Christ example is dying on the cross for our sins, putting our need of salvation before His own need to not suffer for our sake. All the ministering He did while He on earth, healing the sick, teaching and so forth.

The ways that you think the ways that you act become like Jesus because you want to please Him in all that you do.
