I've been told that Digital Rights Management will prevent me from recording programmes from my TV on to a DVD recorder! Is this right? If so, what can I replace my broken VCR with to do the same job?

What you have been told is total rubbish, to be honest.

I have a Sony DVD recorder and like hundreds of thousands of other people (millions?) I record from the TV all the time.

This is not right. I have dvd recorder and use it to record from sky and terrestrial. The only restrictions i have found is that you can't record pay per view channels!
