They could also be excited. Sometimes there brain is so stimulated it is hard for them to relax and calm down. On nights like that, try giving them a bath, reading them a story in a dim light or maybe put a movie on that they like, something with not that much excitement which will help them to relax.

Why don't they sleep at this age? I have the same problem with my 3 year old son. We do a lot on the weekends thinking I am going to wear him out and have him sleep well. Just the opposite occurs and he's running into our room all night. Maybe their schedule is being thrown off with all the fun stuff? Can you get them to nap? They might be overtired. That might help.

they may be overtired. Like their brains took in sooo much that day that it takes longer for their minds to wind down. Usually having a steady bedtime routine helps. We call it getting ready for the "Triple B" (Bath, Book, Bed). The older they get the easier it gets.

They could be getting overtired. I know it sounds strange, but when they miss their bedtime or are too active during the day they sleep less. ive got no idea why, but try putting them to bed earlier, that works with my daughter.
