The Father made rules to live by.
The Son showed us how to live by example, and paid the penalty for our sin(s).
The Holy Spirit's role is found in
John 14:26; 15:26; and 16:13-15
His job is to always point us to Jesus.

sorry, this is hard to understand.
they have very different duties. the Father (Jehovah) was the judge of the old testament, is the instructor and Father figure. the holy Spirit is the guide, caller, revealer, etc. The Son is the Judge now, is Salvation, is Lord, and is the intercessor from God to man.
why'd Jesus Christ have to be crucified? the wages of sin is death. something had to die to pay for sin. humans sinned constantly and had to kill their own animals to pay for their sin so they wouldn't have to die for it and go to Hell. the outpoured blood was the main part of the sacrifice.
now in Isaiah, there were many prophesies about the Messiah. plus there's the "cursed is all who hang on a tree" verse. now Jesus, having God's blood in Him (your bloodline carries through your father) had perfect blood and was blameless, and so was the perfect sacrifice. He took all our sins upon Himself, like a curse (cursed is anyone who hangs on a tree) and died on a cross. the wages of sin is death, and so, the wages of sin were paid. one needs only need to accept it and be born again.
Jesus' time with the disciples is recorded in the Bible before and after His death. He greeted them, blessed them and ordained them. even worked miracles. but He taught nothing new, as He had already taught them all they needed to know. the Holy Spirit, the revealer, would do the rest...
