Based on Debian GNU/Linux, Ubuntu concentrates on usability, regular releases, ease of installation, and freedom from legal restrictions. Ubuntu is sponsored by Canonical Ltd., a private company founded by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth. The advantage is that the operating system is free of cost and revised constantly. It provides a low cost alternative to Windows in certain situations.

Ubuntu's latest distro (release) is "Feisty Fawn". It is an Operating System that can even be run from CD. It includes several applications (Tools, Open Office, games) and is very secure.
I use it as a secondary OS and love it. I have been a hard core windows network administrator for ever a decade, but will admit that this is a nice system for personal use.
