Now I toyally see a reason to, I mean it is in the american tradition now to make fun of smokers. I am not one and try to get as many people as I can to quit, but that doesnt help. Now why is it wrong to call fat people fat, I know that there are people who can not help it, but when you see a person at McDonalds with 10 cheeseburgers in front of them, I am taking it that they do not want to change. When I go to the wieght room and see a fat person working out, it brings a smile to my face knowing that if more fat people could see him fixing himself, then they will to. I am training to become a weight trainer, and a phycologist, so I know if you make fun of someone about something enough, they will want to change. I know from experience, I used to be fat. But what do you all think?
This question is part of my game, if you do not know what I am talkin bout, look at my first question for today!

i dont think so... i used to be fat. i was like 30 lbs over weight! ICK! lol. i think its mostly their fault that they get that way in the first place! i do feel sorry for some of them though... its so much harder to do stuff that thin people can... but i think that its freedom of speech and its their fault in the first place

Luckily in America, we have freedom of speech. You could call someone whatever you wanted to (technically) - but why would you? Fat people are fat because they have a problem... either with their diet (which is a tricky word) or with their body. Regardless they have a problem, which simply means they aren't perfect, much like myself, and probably ever other human being out there. So before you call anyone anything, think about the things you've done in your life or the imperfections you have that people could make fun of you for... just because they aren't showing on the outside, doesnt mean they arent problems... :) But if it really floats your boat to make fun of people, by all means do it, but remember that karma comes back around, even if you dont believe in the word "karma" - the idea of it is real. On the other hand if you just truly enjoy motivating people to better themselves, why dont you do a study on a field / career that would allow you to do just that. Become a "motivational speaker" - Chris Farley style... :) I dont know what ure "game" is, but you posted a question and this is my answer. Hope all is well.

I think that too many people are being too considerate for the fat obese mutha jamas that keep stuffing thier faces with food that is not at all good for thier health.
I can agree with some people cant help that thier genes suck so they have a tougher time in losing it but no one in this world cannot lose fat. If people would stop eating 8 meals a day and 4 of those consists of fast food and garbage then they wouldnt be soo damn obese. Being too polite to people who obviously contribute nothing to society by just stuffing thier faces to the point where they have breathing problems by just standing should recieve no pity what so ever!

I guess it would be wrong to call an overweight person "fat" just because of the simple fact that it's rude to call people "fat" even though one of the definitions of the word "fat" is being "Overweight; having a body weight greater than is considered desirable or advisable."
I guess it really depends on your intentions when you do call someone "fat"...I mean if your just doing it to be rude and hurt their feelings, then it would be wrong. But if maybe you just said it because you were trying to help them out some how or had some other good intentions, I guess it would be okay...it's just so hard to say, because that word tends to come off so harsh.

YEAH dude, I wouldn't call someone fat to their faces. However, obesity in this country is a major health concern and being overweight is as big a health problem as smoking. One of the many reasons health care cost is continuing to rise. It's okay to tell people to stop smoking cause it's bad for you, but it's not okay to tell stop stuffing their faces cause it's bad for you. I blame our society as much as I blame the individual. Although, if you become a trainer then you can tell people they are overweight, hand them a business card and say call me and I can help you. That might be better.

First of all, rude comments and teasing don't motivate most people. Accept the fact that what worked for you doesn't work for everyone. That is especially important if you are considering becoming a weight trainer. I really don't understand why it is important for you to validate using this term, but I would think knowing its offensive would be reason enough to stop using it.

First of all, you should learn how to spell 'psychologist' if that really is going to be your chosen profession. Second of all, it is total BS that teasing a person will cause them to change. Yes, in some cases it may, but in other cases it may ruin their self-esteem, cause them to have an eating disorder, or to become even fatter since many people turn to food in times of distress.
Should you call a fat person 'fat"? Why would you have to? Do you think fat people don't realize they are fat?

I think people should be polite and civil to others. The trend towards uncouth and insulting language is very disturbing. We used to say "Sports participation builds character." Now we have trash talk and criminal behavior, yet we idolize the stars even more.
Conversely, some authorities in the the field of pediatrics have recently recommended that pediatricians stop using euphemisms when referring to child obesity. Glad I'm retired. I'd hate to dance over that bed of hot coals.

i don't see a problem. there's actually an issue because so many kids now have weight problems, but doctors are hesitant to call them "obese" and "overweight." being gentle about it is sidestepping the truth-that these kids are at serious risk for developing major health problems.
