Its a way of Christian factions claiming dominance.

All factions lay claim to being "true" Christians with the implication other factions are "missing something". Evangelicals are the worst for it - though it is quite clear that they are missing their marbles.

Much of what the others have answered is correct with Bible's verses. I would add, for today there needs to be a distinction between true and false Christians.

With over 10,000 religions, all claiming to be Christian, it is obvious the majority are wrong. How to tell?

They would worship only in the way the Bible authorizes. Jesus quoted frequently from the scrolls that becasme the Bible that were written at that time. He personally knew the men who would write the rest of it. If the Bible is against something, true Christians must be against it.

Just as Jesus worshipped his Father, Jehovah, true Christians would as well. It is pointed out many times throughout the Bible, Jehovah detests any mixing of true with pagan religion. So another mark of true Christians would be having nothing to do with pagan doctrines or beliefs or celebrations.

True Christians would have nothing to do with worldly politics. Jesus said he was no part of this world and his followers were no part of this world either. If he was, his people would have defended him when he was arrested. When some Jews tried to make him king, he did not join in. He got out of town. When the clergy tried to get him into the Roman tax battle, he said "give Cesar's things to Cesar, but God's things to God." He showed we obey man's law unless it conflicts with the higher law of God's.

TC (true Christians) would have love among themselves. Not talking orgies, but principled love. TC would not fight each other individually or in groups as in war among nations. In war today, there are just as many people claiming to be Christian on both sides. Catholics vs. Catholics, Protestant vs. Protestant. That is not love among ourselves.

TC would have the same beliefs no matter where they are located. 1Cor. 1:10 shows they all speak in agrrement, with the same mind and line of thought. Today many churches split because they don't like the preacher or fighting between the members. Two miles down the road is another church of the same faith and teach something different. They are not TC.

TC preach. Everyone knows Romans 10:13 that says everyone calling on the name of the Lord will be saved. Not to many ever read the next two verses. How are they going to call if they have not heard? How can they hear without someone to preach?

Philippians 1:9 stresses TC having love abounding with ACCURATE knowledge and FULL discernment of the word of God.

The mindset of TC personality is at Colossians 3:12-17. This is not seen among most people today.

One of the principles of true christians besides love is that they are searchers and practicers of Truth and not taking for granted the teachings of religious leaders who Jesus warned that many were wolves in sheeps clothing.
Is the teachings really of the Bible? Are teachings given by the faith really traditions of men rather than scriptural.
A true christian researches his beliefs carefully and with a good heart condition to accept God's word of truth and shun the doctrines of men.

Nobody really knows because what one person would consider a true Christian the other wouldn't. I think it's a subjective term tossed about to accuse and make the person using it feel superior since they're the ones who usually judge what they consider a true Christian to be.

Some one who puts God first in every thing.

This basically means that you read and study the Bible, pray, go to church and do what ever you understand that God wants you to do (or not to do).

He wants to have a personal relation with you (Spirit baptized) so that He can help you personally.

Someone who believes the gospel and has trusted in Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior for the remission of all sin.

Romans 10:9-10
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

A true Christian is one who is not trying to "buy" his/her way to heaven with good works, but rather, good works are an evidence of Jesus being their Lord.

Titus 3:5
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.
