I haven't started yet, but will soon. I am having a hard time thinking clearly, and at times have a difficult time with comprehending written material, and confusion in conversation.

In general, the answer is yes to your question. However there is such a thing as disequilibrium syndrome within 24 hours of dialysis, where one of them is mental changes. One good news on this is it would resolve spontaneously over 48 hour after dialysis.

Go ahead and feel the difference. Ask your renal doctor on other possible side effects and complications so that you are prepared.

As a former dialysis patient, I can say that it will most likely improve. Having fluid and toxins in your body changes a lot of things you wouldn't really think of. When you start, you may get sick from the session, because of the changes that are happening in your body. But the next day, you will feel much better. Make sure to watch your fluid intake. The more that you have to take off during dialysis, the bigger chance of getting sick or having difficulties. Good Luck.

Yes dialysis improves the quality of life in many ways. Mental clarity being one of them, toxins have built up in your body and the dialysis will absolutley help. You will also have more energy, more of an appetite and generally feel better. Chronic renal pts generally look foward to dialysis sessions once they have been once or twice and felt the inprovement. GOOD LUCK!
