The normal body length for an adult Fancy Rat is between nine and 11 inches, with an average body weight, which can range from 450-650 grams for males and 350-450 grams for females. The tail is smooth and its length is seven to nine inches in both males and females. I can't remember what grams to pounds is right now.

Also genetics plays a role with how large one will be. We have a rex mix who's father, possibly a jumbo rat (not our's), was very large and robust, he's taking after his father and is almost the same weight as our 8 month old male rat at almost 4 months old. However with an obese rat, you need to be careful of diabetes as with any overweight animal. Take him to the vet for a check-up and have the vet weigh him to get his weitght, if he's overweight, the vet should recommend a diet or ask about one.

Our biggest rat a white pink-eyed male, is 19"-20" from nose to tail tip and is about 575 grams at only 8 months old. He is still growing since we measure him each month to see how long he is (May-18", June-19.5").

If you're sure their teeth are too long they should go to the vet & have them trimmed before this causes serious problems. Our 2.5 year old girl's teeth recently became misaligned so we need to take her in periodically because she can no longer keep them trim by herself. Our other rats get chew toys & the occasional nut, but they are perfectly able to keep their teeth @ the proper length by grinding their top & bottom teeth together, or 'bruxing'. Your vet can also tell you whether your rats are overweight.

450-800 grams is the average weight of a domestic male and 350-450 for female. And about the teeth i recomend one of those edible huts and if that doesnt work id contact a vet to see what they do or suggest

let the vet trim their teeth, then give them raw, unsalted peanuts in the shell, as well as other nuts in the shell to keep their teeth from growing too much. hard breadcrusts also work well.
