I'm not sure if these courses are under $20, but they are public. If you got the 07-08 Talking Phone Book, that's where I got these courses from.

1. Golf Club of Jacksonville-779-0800
2. Hyde Park Golf Club- 786-5410
3. Jacksonville Beach Golf Course- 247-6187
4. Mill Cove Golf Club- 646-4653
5. Pine Lakes Golf Course- 757-0318
6. West Meadows Golf Course- 781-4834
7. The First Tee of Jacksonville- 924-0401

You have several options, but if you've been in Jax long enough you'll know that there isn't much under $20.

Your best bet is a Red Flag special on Last Minute Golfer. These are special rates that come available on certain courses less than 48 hours before you need a tee time. I always check there first....and it's free to register and use!

You may be able to get a good rate around $20-25 for several courses like....

Magnolia Point, Royal St. Augustine (nice course, short and narrow), Laurel Island and even a place like Cimarrone.

Another option you have is playing later in the day on a weekend and getting a twilight rate. Most courses offer these rates around $25 or so.

The bad thing about Jax is that there are no real short / inexpensive courses to the public. The only one I know of is down in Palm Valley and it's a goat ranch.

You can get good rates with coupons in the Entertainment book (coupon book for sale at entertainment.com), in the Money Pages, Mint Magazine or even in the Florida Times Union.

The last bit of advice I'd give is to go to each courses website and sign up for their specials. I've gotten some good deals a North Hampton, South Hampton, Windsor Parke, and some other nice courses this way. These are all really good courses that you can play for around $25 when you find a good rate. My friends and I don't play anywhere for over $30 and even though we run into some trouble from time to time, you can find some good deals out there if you're willing to look.

Worst case is to call the courses directly and see what they can offer you. Middle of the summer is a low time for rates. Good luck!
