I just went to the dermatologist for the first time and he reccomended DoxyCycline, Iknow it's in the same family as Tetracycline, but it's stronger and i don't have to worry about foods and dairy. I'm going to look up more on the drug, but am a little skeptical about taking a pill everyday for a 8 weeks. So I was wondering, does anyone have any experiences with this pill, warnings, praisal, ect. Anything would be great, thank you!

I am taking it right now as an anti malarial drug (prevents getting an infection if you go to an infected area)
My dose is 100 mgs a day and i will be taking it for about 7 weeks, I am on my 6th week now and have had no side affects apart from slightly dry skin on my hands and feet (it went away).
One tip though: doxycycline makes your skin more sensitive to sun, so take the pill after sunset (at night). Also, definitely take it after meals!! I took it on an empty stomach once and I don't recommentd it..

There was a time I got a terrible acne and my dermatologist prescribed a doxycycline. It brought just mild gastrointestinal discomforts which was tolarable but due to necessary outdoors activities (it was summer time ) it made me look more awful with all the acnes and discolored skin from sunburn. Though just mild but it appeared so bad I have to stop taking it after just a week. I resorted out to some herbal soap remedies instead which worked like magic. Luckily the sustained sunburn did not leave any bad traces, and I got cleared of acne in less than a month.

I took this for a while. It was my sister's prescription but she had a problem after not taking this with enough water, and it burned her throat/esophagus quite a bit because of that. So first, make sure to get it all the way down into your stomach! with water!
The dose I believe was 100, though I think it can go up to 250? I don't think you have to worry about taking it for 8 weeks. I don't know if I saw true results, but if there were any, it happened after 3-4 weeks.

Hi, I also was recommeded it for acne. However, i had taken it for anti-malarial purposes and developed at rash on my hands and feet (wasnt itchy but red and slightly raised) which kept creeping further so i stopped using it. When i told the doctor this he put me on erythromycin (another antibiotic) for the acne. Ive only been taking it for a week so don't know if it works, but just be aware that are other options if you react to doxycycline.
The sun thing also happened to my sister when she took them she got very badly burnt and she usually tans.

I was on it for a long time for rosacea, but it upset my stomach terribly and didn't seem to do a whole lot for my skin, so I stopped it.
I did get a photosensitvity reaction from it, when I took it later for Lyme disease. If you do try it, you need to stay out of the sun. I have permanent skin changes from the reaction.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

The main problem of using oral antibiotics for dermatological conditions is the risk of resistance. By taking antibiotics on a regular basis you are creating a situation in which bacteria could become immune. This creates a problem for all of us.
Stick to the topical antibiotics/drying agents.

Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic. Not sure what your skin condition is, but don't think it should be serious enough for a medication like this.Antibiotics are bad for you ,in general, as they kill all the "friendly flora" in your intestinal tract. If you do choose to take this medication, please be sure to also eat some yogurt with it to aid in the re-population of bacteria in your gut.
