I am SO THRILLED that Montoya won!!!!! If you heard a howl out of Michigan, that was me and my beloved being overjoyed at the win. I know lots of people don't like him, but I do hope others enjoyed it. (We're also happy that Harvick was right behind Montoya.)
Oh, and I also hope I'm not the only one who thinks Robby "The Only Way I Can Keep Others From Winning Is Wrecking" Gordon was an absolute jerk for saying Montoya was just lucky!

RG acted like it was *just* luck; Montoya rather graciously said that all wins involve a bit of luck. I'll agree with that, too.
I've been really dismayed by some of the prejudice Montoya has been getting. NASCAR's an awesome sport; I want to let everyone in! My beloved is also not from around here, so we liked seeing him come in. Plus I think Montoya's really rather cute. :-)

I will celebrate also!
Montoya hasn't seen alot of these tracks. Not to menchine he is used to a car that can't rub fenders. So he has to be aggresive untill he finds out what he can & can't do. If your nat aggresive in your learning you become another Christain Fittipaldi just driving around the back getting into everybody elses mess...

I am not a big Montoya fan, I think Nascar has overdone his Diversity poster-boy image just to make a buck. However, I do appreciate his experience with the F1 racing. Before the race, I told my boyfriend that if there was any track that I actually expect JPM to do well at, it is the road courses. I figure, if you have raced at just about every major road course in the world, that has to be a huge advantage in the Nascar circuit, considering the limited number of road courses that they run. I even had him in my fantasy league line up. Props to JPM for driving a clean race...I can tell you that I was very pissed at the way he won at Mexico City in the Busch series. He has certainly earned a little more respect from me.

I don't like Montoya and I don't think I can "celebrate" but I certainly can appreciate his finesse at road courses. You could tell he absolutely understood how to drive these things. I was also pretty impressed with Robby Gordon although their styles are very different. Both drivers to me are a bit abrasive and JPM's "get out of my way!" attitude doesn't sit well with me and I can see it wearing on some of the other drivers. Perhaps age and time will settle him down a bit. And while I was not happy that he won, I can say he was as deserving as anyone yesterday. And you have to admit, Luck does play partly into any win. Robby's sour grapes are just that: sour grapes. Don't let it damper your celebration. I'm glad to know JPM has a fan or two because most of my friends who are NASCAR fans can't stand him.

I think Juan Pablo Montoya is a very impatient driver who unnecissarily makes contact with other drivers, and what are you talking about with Robby Goron, as if Montoya could finish an oval race without wrecking?
Montoya will get what's coming to him from one of the drivers who won't take his crap, like Johson, Stewart, or Jr.
Don't get me wrong the guy has talent, but his attitude behind the wheel is going land him on his lid sooner or later.

I am no fan of JPM; but I do agree with Robby's assessment; but not the spirit in which he said it.
The King....Richard Petty said that racing is 10% skill and 90% luck. This is coming from a man who won 200 races. So if Robby wants to say that JPM was lucky; that's fine.....it's still a win. Robby should be pissed at his Crew Chief, not JPM.
JPM and the entire #42 Texaco Dodge used a combination of driving skill, pit strategy, and luck to win at Sonoma. Even though I don't like JPM I will applaud him for a great piece of Driving; for it was a great piece of Driving. Enjoy the moment.

You don't think that SOME luck played into his winning?? I can congratulate him on the win, and he certainly did a hell of a job... but he had luck on his side also, you cannot deny that... Robby was surely upset because he was the class of the field for most of the race, but his team blew the pit strategy war...

first off.."Robby "The Only Way I Can Keep Others From Winning Is Wrecking" Gordon" and you like Juan? whats up with that? He wrecks people just to see them spin not for any gain. I think he thinks its almost fun.. But he will get whats coming to him if he keeps that up for to much longer. and as for Robbie Gordon wrecking people he doesn't do it much as he used to, basically because people would have rather taken him out. But now he has their respect to race with them. Juan is doing this crap in his Rookie year, not the best way to start out...
