I was just at a wedding and I like how they did their favors- 1 item and 1 candy per guest. I already bought perfect pair candles for mine and though it would be nice to little boxes of jelly belly beans in pear flavor - mixed with other "fall" flavors. Here the question- I like to do everything in advance but if I am using jellybeans- How far in advance could I make them? Do jelly beans get stale or go bad?

I'd skip it entirely. Sugar attracts moisture something fierce. Nothing worse than some sticky beans.

People leave favors. Hopefully you won't get stuck with a lot of candles. It's better to skip them entirely instead of more stuff that no one wants. It's a waste of your time and resources.

Do them as far in advance as you want...I wouldn't say more than a few months but that's just because longer than that would be gross on principal.

Jelly beans sit in those bins at the candy store and places like Target for weeks and they are fine. It's kinda like chocolate...takes forever to actually go bad.

Instead of individual favors why don't you just set up the candy bar? So much less work for you and guests can take what they like.

you could most likely get away with doing them maybe a month-month and a half before and keep them in the fridge or even freeze them to insure freshness later on.

truthfully tho, I would skip them....they WILL get left on the tables....its almost inevitable. I had pink m & m's on mine (last name starts with an m so it kinda worked out!) and my family was eating stupid pink m & m's for a month and a half after the wedding. It was SOOO not worth the time I put into them. I like your candle Idea, I've seen those and they are so cute! I would definetly take them home, but the candy thing never seems to go well. You have your bases covered....skip them and save yourself some stress, your what 5 months away from the wedding now? you need to alleviate as much as possible! :)

I think that you can get them ready about 2 months or so ahead of time and then store them in an air tight container. I WOULD NOT however store them in the refrigerator as one person suggested because I feel like that would definitely make them hard.

Jelly beans can get stale but its usually after like 6 months or longer.

Good luck and have fun!!

Call Jelly=Belly if you want the correct answer.
About a week in advance is a good estimate for us amateurs, and use Zip=Lock storage, and the refrigerator, until the day of the wedding.
I wouldn't risk freezing these, and then having them melt.
Jelly=Belly customer service should know. I've seen a lot of Jelly=Belly jelly beans lately, yum.

Jelly beans do go stale, but if you leave the favors in a sealed box they should be fine for about a week or two. Any plastic box with lid where you can stack the pre-made favors should work well.

I wouldn't think you would need to go so far as to keep them in the fridge, but I would definitely keep them in an airtight, cool place. I would say you'd definitely be safe to do them a couple of weeks out, if you were able to store them well, maybe even a month. If you're going to do Jelly Belly's--since you mentioned the flavors--I'd call the company and ask what they reccommend for storing them. Or, you can send them an email using this link. http://mycusthelp.com/JELLYBELLY/supportcontact.asp?sSessionID=
Good luck!

They do go bad, but I think it takes a long time. The sugar in them gets crystallized and hard when they go stale. I bet they would last for a couple months at least though. I wonder if jellybelly.com has any info about this or a person you can call/email to ask this.

You should wait 1-2 days before the wedding and store them at room temperature either in the sealed bags or the rubbermaid/tupperware container. When putting together the favors, use a scoop or spoon, not bare hands, it will make them moist and sticky.

Do not refrigerate them, once removed from the cold, they will get moist and the colors will get on hands and fingers.

I'd say 1-2 weeks before for jelly beans....remember being a kid and having those jelly beans sitting in your easter basket for who knows how long after easter? yeah...if left in open air they can go stale and taste yucky and get too hard.
