has anyone had a problem with the interior handle (driver side) of 99 GMC suburban breaking and, if so, is this a "do it yourself" repair?

actually a pretty common thing. go to the dealer for this part as it has been updated, also pick up a few of the plastic clips for the door panel. you can pick up a cheap tool to help you remove the door panel at any parts store in the help section.

It's a diy repair the first time it will take couple of beers but after that it's pretty easy overall.

These are very easy to replace. The door panels come off very easy on trucks, just be sure to remove all the clipped components first. The clips are set fairly tight, but they have to be removed before. There are several screws through the panel into the door that then have to come out. Then grab the panel and lift it straight up as there are hooks that "bite" into the door frame. Then it's just one or two screws and unhook the rod from the handle. Good luck.

Its about a $35 part from GM and yes you can do it yourself. Once you get the door panel off there will be a single rivet you have to drill out then the whole handle/door lock assembly slides towards the front of the door then pops off. Detach the rods connected to it then its the exact reverse to put the new one on. If you don't have a rivet gun handy you can use a nut and bolt to secure the new one.
