chew gum. keeps your mouth occupied. if you grind at night, they have mouth guards for that.

Usually, this is a sign of stress or anxiety, but in some people (myself included) it becomes a habit. I have found that wearing a plastic mouthguard helps. If you are having this problem in the daytime, chances are you are clenching and grinding at night. This is really bad for your teeth. Try the guard. You can buy one especially for this in the health and beauty department along with toothbrushes, etc. or you can pick up a regular sports mouth guard, which you can boil and then form fit around your teeth. It's worth a try.

This is a very common problem. Practice relaxing your jaw during the day, to make it so you will be less prone to clench in your sleep. Make it a habit to keep your teeth apart, lips closed.
Learn some yoga or stretching exercises. This loosens your muscles and enables you to relax so that you won't clench. Keep these exercises up on a regular basis, especially before you go to bed. You will sleep better and wake up without a headache.
Good Luck!

buy a bite guard, available at most sporting goods stores, because if you clench during the day, I guarantee you do so in your sleep. the constant clenching is causing your pain and probably damaging your teeth. The bite guard in your mouth when you sleep will lessen the effects.
