population. The Stats were provided by the US Bureau of Prisons. The stats showed Christian pop: 80% Atheist pop: 0.2% Apparently, so many people hit the ABUSE button, the question was removed! Now, is the removal censorship or are some people actually offended by those stats???

Apparently, Christians didn't like you pointing out that atheist are not immoral. They eliminate challenges to their faith, or come up with ridiculous alternatives theories (like ID vs evolution).

Many people claim to be Christian even though they have never been to Church or picked up a Bible. Paris Hilton even 'converted' within a week of being in prison. So there are two possibilities.
1) That people are claiming to be Christian and it's stuffing up your stats. Or
2) That the prison system is REALLY good at 'converting' people to Christianity.

I would also like to claim that Atheists are always going to be represented in a smaller way because they are a minority group.

PS. I have no problem with the stats. A question I posted was deleted because it contained a derogatory word for a black person that I was questioning.

first of all I I would not push the abuse button for this question- however when the stats may mean this- not all people who call themselves Christians, are Christians. Now I am not saying that no born again believers ever go to prison, but I am saying- that people who believe in God are not necessarily Christians- I believed in God long before I became a Christian. I was never an atheist. So if I was asked as a young person if I was a Christian I would have said yes. So before we believe these stats let us really look into the truth behind them. I am not offended by these stats because I know that some people would say Christian- because they believe in God, not because they truly are saved, born again believers.

Have you ever heard of the phrase: Atheist don't exist in foxholes.
In prison there probably going through some major stress issues and look toward God for answers.
A lot of people call themselves Christians just because it was how they were brought up.
Religion is just an establishment that some people associate themselves to, but it is hardly a belief structure for most of them.

I just don't know what you think that proves. First of all, anyone can claim to be a Chrisitian, that doesn't exactly make it true. Second, are you forgetting that one of the most thriving ministries in many Christian religions, is prison ministries? So, couldn't those numbers (if they are true) represent inmates who became Christian after they were already put in prison? I wouldn't hit the "ABUSE" link, but it's clear to me that some stats (valid or not) don't tell a complete story.

Ask any street thug gangsta if they believe in God and they will tell you "yes." Faith in God is even a common theme in gangsta rap, along with sex, violence, and drugs. Now, since gangstas are more likely to end up in prison than most other people, it only makes sense that there would be a large percentage of believers in prison.

Hmm someone is offended by those stats.
And just to be clear (if your stats are accurate) I doubt any atheist were offended by the mere .02%.
LOL
"Darn it as atheist we need to work harder on getting some recruits in the prisons"

People were offended. Most likely not the Atheists.

I don't know why it would be reported.

But, of course there would be more people claiming to be Christians than atheist in prison. . .the percentage of confessed atheist in America is still like around 9%.

well i know as a fact that religion itself out populates atheism, becuse many fear their god and dont wanna take the cahnce of going to hell. but christianity itself? its a more popular religion true, but i highly doubt atheism is only .2% of population. especailly since there are states that are almost fully devoted to the belief. and i highly doubt in fact, i know that christianity isnt 80% of the population in america.
