The X-ray was disccovered by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1859 (you seem to mistype your number entry) but the use of X-rays for medical purposes (to develop into the field of radiation therapy) was until the 20th century. It was pioneered by Major John Hall-Edwards in Birmingham, England in early 1900. In the 1950s X-rays were used to produce an X-ray microscope.

You've got something really confused here... or transposed your numbers.

X-ray was not discovered at all until 1895, by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen. I won't even go into the history of cancer and its treatment, although it was around the beginning of the 20th century that it was discovered that X-ray could not only diagnosis cancer and cure it... but cause it as well. I believe radiation therapy for cancer was first done about 1899 or 1900.

Hope that helps...
